Well, this is it - the last week of the season. We hope everyone has enjoyed the experience. If you have ideas or comments on how we could improve our CSA next year please please please let us know. Is there something special you’d like us to grow next year? Should we grow more of something and less of something else? Any and all comments are welcome.
We still have beets and brussels sprouts in the field that haven’t and may not mature before the real end of the season - when the cold doesn’t lift during the day and/or the snow flies. If by chance the weather holds like it did last year we may be in touch with you after Thanksgiving to see if there is any interest in these but for now this is the official end of the season.
Thank you all for a great year here on the farm and we hope to see you next year.

Well we are getting to the end of the season. We will have product this week and next assuming we don’t run out this week. There are still beets and brussels sprouts in the field but I’m not sure if they are going to get to a marketable size before the cold sets in. We’re putting everything under remay (that white cloth you see in the field) and we are hoping that adds some heat. More of an issue to plant growth is that we are losing light pretty quickly and plants don’t grow unless there is light. Speaking of light don’t forget to set your clocks back on Saturday night. We are offering cauliflower this week and next. The heads are about as big as the broccoli has been the last couple of weeks. Not as big as they normally get during the summer season.
As for the dry beans for those of you that ordered. I haven’t been able to find an organic grower that has a supply locally and therefore won’t be able to offer any as part of the CSA. However, for those of you interested Wood Praire Farm in Bridgewater Maine will have dry beans available December 1st. Go to their website to order or call them at 1-800-829-9765. The website has a price of $9.95 for 2 lbs of beans.
This weekend is going to be busy. First thing Saturday morning just as the dawn breaks the truck arrives to take the pigs to slaughter. This is always a fun exercise, getting pigs in a truck. The rest of the weekend barring any rain we will be cleaning up the fields and getting next years garlic planted.
See you Saturday - Kate
